GLEW TO REPLACE MORRIS IN HYPERION / ACRE JEAN CATERHAM

Phil Glew is to replace Ed Morris as partner to Oliver Bull in the Acre Jean backed, Hyperion Caterham CSR for the remainder of the 2007 season.

Morris, who took a win at Hockenheim with Hyperion has been drafted into the Damax Ascari for the FIA GT3 championship and with Glew’s own FIA GT ambitions thwarted due to a lack of funding, he’s now relishing the opportunity to race with Hyperion who he already works for as a test driver and instructor.

Hyperion MD Steve Hindle commented “We’re delighted that Phil has committed to us for the remainder of the season. He’s a proven winner in single seaters (Formula BMW) and British GT. Having worked with him both as a Caterham instructor and on our BMW programme, the depth of his ability as both a driver and team-mate cannot be understated.

Glew, aged 23, started racing karts at the age of 8 and progressed to Formula Ford (with the works Junior Van Diemen team), Formula Renault and in 2004, moved to Formula BMW where he was runner-up in his first season. In 2006, he moved to GTs, driving a Porsche 996 where in his first race weekend, produced the fastest lap, and thereby established himself as a man to watch and beat. By Brands Hatch, he’d teamed-up with fellow ex-Caterham winner Tom Ferrier and the two went on to take class honours in an epic one-hour race.

“I was gutted when I lost the Bucharest drive” said Glew “so when Steve asked me to stand-in for Ed, I jumped at the chance. The Acre Jean car is iconic and working at Hyperion, I know the effort that goes in to the preparation.” He continued, “I’m also looking forward to working with Olly as we both have a similar approach and having seem him test, I know that his pace is going to be strong and together, we should be able to challenge for a third consecutive title.”

The Acre Jean backed, Hyperion Caterham CSR 260 won the inaugural Cosworth Caterham Masters championship in 2005 with Jon Barnes and Luke Stevens. In 2006, this was repeated with Nathan Bell and Rob Jenkinson.
